ADMINISTRATOR BIO
My name is Karon Ruiz, and I have been the administrator of California Christian Academy, PSP since 1998. My journey in homeschooling began in 1987 when I embarked on educating my four children, then ages 8 through 15. I fondly refer to those early years as the "homeschooling pioneer movement"—a time when homeschooling resources were scarce and required determination to acquire.

After relocating to Central California in 1980, I married my husband, Armando Ruiz, a HVAC contractor. Together, we have built a life rooted in faith and family, celebrating 43 years of marriage and raising four children. Today, my adult children are in their 30s and early 40s, and three of them have blessed us with nine grandchildren. Three of my four children graduated from homeschooling, all pursued higher education, and one went on to complete law school.

Homeschooling today is far more accessible than it was during our pioneering days. Curriculum companies now provide abundant resources, whereas we had to search tirelessly for books, often persuading publishers to sell to us. Back then, venturing out during school hours frequently led to judgmental stares, prompting us to keep our children out of public view from
8 AM to 3 PM.

In the 1990s, homeschooling families flourished in our community, offering enriching extracurricular activities. My children thrived in outside classes such as art, biology, and advanced mathematics, taught by fellow homeschooling parents with expertise in these subjects. They also participated in an all-homeschool choir with 150 students. Eventually, I transitioned from my first PSP and began administering my own school in the late ’90s alongside two other families.

A Christian since 1974, my faith has always been the foundation of my life. Understanding the unconditional grace of God has profoundly shaped my perspective—acknowledging that salvation cannot be earned but is a gift from Him. When Jesus proclaimed on the cross, “It is finished,” He meant it. There is nothing we can do to add to His sacrifice; it is entirely His work. I have shared more about my personal journey in an article I wrote in 2014, Under His Grace: From Legalism to Love, and I would be grateful for your feedback if you choose to read it.

In addition to my work in education, I am an author. My first book, Grace in the Shadows, is part of the Journey of Grace series. If you’re interested, I would love for you to read an excerpt. You can also visit my author page for more information.

I am currently preparing to release Grace in the Darkness, the second book in the series, in 2025. This book holds deep personal significance, as it will be dedicated to my beloved granddaughter, Pearl, who lost her battle with cancer on November 23, 2024. After putting my writing on hold for two and a half years to be with her, I hope to resume work on this book next year. My precious Pearly-Girl, you will forever be in my heart.

Please let me know how I can assist you in your homeschooling journey. Due to my schedule, I answer emails as time permits, but I am always happy to help through email when I can.
